About Vera Masterson

After it became crystal clear that I'd never make it as a violinist on tour with Jay-Z (as my grade school yearbook pronounced in the "What do you want to be when you grow up?" section for graduating eighth graders), I knew that I had to make a quick career change.I was sitting on the CTA on my way to high school, as I did every day, and I was playing this game I'd always play, trying to guess which stop each person would get off at based on the way they acted within the train car: it might be the clothes they were wearing, the people they were with, or even the way they spoke on the phone.I realized that I was quite good at this game. This experience, and eventual collection of experiences, pushed me into studying sociology: how people interact with their communities and those within and outside their communities, and how that then manifests into their own personal beliefs, opinions and stories. Marketing is the same, as I quickly discovered upon studying entrepreneurship; how do people connect with brands? How do brands connect with people? And most importantly, in today's competitive landscape, how can a brand tell their unique story? What stories do people actually want to hear?
