About Veronica Nicholson

I am Anishnawbe (Marten Clan) from the Michipicoten First Nation on the north eastern shores of Lake Superior in Ontario. I have gained considerable experience working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations in administrative and business management, leadership development, community economic development, policy development, strategic planning, capital project management and health service planning. I have been involved with the Friendship Centre Movement for many years, and is currently the Executive Director of the #1 ranked friendship centre in Canada the Timmins Native Friendship Centre. I have deep roots where I live and continue to be actively involved with community development and social change that address the needs of urban Indigenous people. My community involvement is highly regarded through my ongoing leadership and participation on local, provincial and federal boards and advisory committees. I see endless merit in bringing people from diverse cultures, ages, and backgrounds together to engage in practical dialogue and community driven research. I believe that enhanced knowledge is the key to successful community relationships, particularly in collaborating with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and organizations. I believe that it is important to provide balanced understanding of historical issues and be adept at enhancing knowledge in a manner that utilizes humour, kindness and compassion.
