It’s another day to excel.” A mentor once told me this; it is my guiding motto. It’s especially true for work in cybersecurity and systems engineering which requires a mandatory high level of effectiveness, quality and servicing. The technical and organizational operability and security of critical infrastructure and delivery systems depends upon seeking out, developing and executing strict processes, management and oversight with little to no error. I get psyched about InfoSec and I excel at it because successfully finding solutions that work is paramount to my clients’ goals of fulfilling their mission. Since those missions are usually in service to the citizens of our country, I have a heightened awareness of the criticality of all aspects of my work, from analysis and testing to any ‘go-live’ authorization or system release to a customer. I have welcomed opportunities to utilize my writing skills to communicate technical information and procedures for the projects, systems and agencies for which I have worked. My ability to present ideas in a clear, concise and relevant manner has been called upon in senior or supervisory roles I’ve held in managing teams, reporting to company executives, interacting with client contacts and authoring operational or credentialing regulations. The majority of my career has been as a senior or lead engineer at Northrop Grumman in support of projects or programs servicing major defense agencies and operational military units. Each position held required the ability to interact with various levels of personnel and management, and often required the need to bridge differing perspectives in order to achieve program or project deadlines and goals. Whether requirements demand initial development, provisioning and execution or corrective actions, what matters most to me is that the final deliverable addresses client needs and in a way that is irrefutably the best answer for what was sought.
