About Veysel Simsek

I teach the modern Turkish and Ottoman Turkish language curriculum at McGill University. Previously, I taught Ottoman Turkish and modern Turkish to non-native speakers in Turkey and Canada. I also have considerable experience with analyzing, translating, and publishing documents, manuscripts, and printed material in Ottoman Turkish. As a historian, I am interested in the transformation of the Ottoman and post-Ottoman Worlds c.1750-1950. My research and teaching in Ottoman/Middle Eastern history engage and incorporate broader global and transnational themes, such as modern state-formation, identity, memory, and war and society.
