About Victoria Hodson

In Fall 2021, I started my PhD in Geography at the University of Guelph. As part of the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership, I am investigating the intersections of domestic and international conservation policy, and what it means for Indigenous-led conservation in Canada. I am also a graduate of Simon Fraser University with a major in Geography (Environmental Specialty) and a Minor in Environmental Education (BA 2011). Completing my MA in Geography in April 2014, my Masters research explored community responses to oil and gas development in coastal British Columbia using a political ecology approach. My analysis focused on the intersecting themes of place, race and capital. During my graduate studies, I also pursued a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning, which allowed me to develop my interest in postsecondary education. As an educator, I strive to use a student centred approach, encouraging a multidirectional flow of knowledge and sharing in the classroom. I expect students to take away a critical toolset for engaging with others more meaningfully and to thinking about the world around them.
