About Vidhya Das
I work for children’s education and agricultural development amongst the poorest tribal communities in Odisha. Currently, the only school education tribal children can aspire for is in residential schools that resemble the orphanages in Oliver Twist. Tribal people are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty – lack of education – poverty with a future that holds little other than unskilled menial work for them and their children. 84% in the tribal districts are below the poverty line, 73% children below 5 are anaemic. In Agragamee, we are working to break this vicious cycle by channelizing the energies of village youth for an excellent education and a livelihood that helps them and their eco-system thrive! The success of our models for education and livelihood are recognised far and wide, and attract demands from parents and farmers to educate and train their children and them for a better quality of life with food and income security.
