About Vikram Devatha

I have an analytical bent of mind, and I have been involved with data analysis in various capacities in my career. I hold a Bachelor of Business degree, with a specialization in Economics and Statistics. I am currently working as a senior analyst with Franklin Templeton in deriving actionable insights from performance and sales of mutual funds. In the past years, I have become involved in projects related to environmental sustainability. I believe that in the near future, if not already, an organization’s commitment to the environment will be directly proportional to its market share. Hence, I see a growing need for environmental data analysis nationwide. For example, I recently led a research effort that determined the effects of grid-connected solar energy systems on the distribution transformer. I relied on Excel for analysing the data, but the data set was so large, the program repeatedly crashed. I reached the limits of what Excel could do, and there were questions I was unable to answer. That was when I realized that I needed better, sharper, more efficient tools and knowledge for processing data. The recent advent of social networks and IOT has exponentially increased the amount of data that organizations collect. For instance, the implementation of Smart City proposals across the country will result in large datasets that government, business and industry need to analyse in real time. Without the right tools, skills and learnings to effectively process Big Data, businesses will quickly lose their competitive edge. I enjoy building end-to-end business solutions in education, business, social & environmental sectors, that capitalizes on my management experience with my love for data analytics.
