About Vilem Petr

Dr. Vilem Petr is a Subject Matter Expert in the application and manufacturing of energetic (explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics) materials for the mining, underground & surface construction and defense industries. Dr. Petr has extensive research experience and served as Director of the Advanced Explosives Research Group (AXPRO) and the Explosives Research Laboratory at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in the United States. He has 20 years of experience, both domestically and internationally. Clients have included (Aggregate Industries, Oldcastle Materials, LafargeHolcim, Austine Powder Company, Orica Australia, Dyno Nobel, Electric Power Plan Research Institute(EPRI), Pioneer Energy Services Corp, Dynamic Material s Corporation, Chevron Corporation, Royal Dutch Shell, United State DOD, US Air Force, NORAD, Los Alamos, and Livermore National Laboratories, Bureau of Reclamation, National Forest Service and US law enforcement agencies. He is also a part-time adjunct faculty at the Missouri University of Science and Technology). Dr. Petr developed and led the Advanced Explosives Research Group (AXPRO) at CSM. The AXPRO team developed the world-class high fidelity detonation and shock wave physics capability at The Explosives Research Laboratory (ERL) at Idaho Springs, Colorado. During the same time, he established and lead the explosive engineering program with a Minor/ Special Topics Program, as well as Master and Ph.D. degrees in the Mining Engineering and Material Science departments. Dr. Petr developed technical short courses for high fidelity instrumentation of energetic materials during detonation. These courses involved the use of high-speed, ultra-high-speed, and flush x-ray imaging technologies for studying the parameters, properties, and effects on the human body and structures and environment. These programs garnered both national and international recognition. In May 2019, Dr. Petr established Petr's Explosive Training School (PETS), an explosive consulting group international explosives academy. The PETS class is a certified program by the State of Colorado and Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to advance training and continue education for explosives end-users and explosives industries national wide. Dr.Petr and his research group are looking for new opportunities to share the highly specialized knowledge concerning safe operating procedures and regulations with industry and government partners.
