About Vinayak Malaghan

Dr Vinayak Devendra Malaghan is a post-doctoral research fellow in the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy at University College Dublin (UCD). Currently, he is working in a project,'BikeHood - Creating Ireland's First Cycling Neighbourhood for Sustainable Transport and Mobility'. The project enhances urban liveability by promoting cycling and walking, while fostering community engagement, environmental awareness, and data-driven decision-making. Prior to joining UCD, Dr. Malaghan worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and IIT Hyderabad. He earned Joint Doctoral Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. During his doctoral and postdoctoral research studies, he got introduced to and consequently developed interest and expertise in multiple research areas, i.e, Highway Design, Driver Behaviour, Naturalistic Driving Studies, Road Safety, Sustainable Transportation, and Emerging Vehicle Technologies. Before joining Doctoral studies, he worked as a Deputy Engineer in a consultancy firm named Lea Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd. He pursued a master's in Transportation Engineering from BITS, Pilani (Pilani campus), India and under graduation in civil engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India. He was awarded Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) and Swinburne University Postgraduate Research Award (SUPRA) fellowships to pursue joint Doctoral studies. He authored nine international journal articles (seven first-authored during his PhD and two co-authored during PDF at IIT Hyderabad) in reputed international journals.
