Background
About Vince Carlson
D. Vince Carlson currently operates a biodynamic farm in Zillah Washington. Vince moved to Central Washington in 2010 from Washington’s Puget Sound Region, and since then has been engaged in stewarding “Valley View Farm”. His operand is to set into action a permaculture farm with biodynamic principles that promise benefit to environment, community and self. Vince is an architect by profession, and as such has been known for his ‘innovative design solutions’. His main focus has been dedicated to “environmentally sustainable design” with a focus on agricultural operations. His projects include not only farmers market, cold storage facility and commercial kitchen design, but also a unique master plan for a flagship dairy facility. During his youth, Vince spent several years on his grandma & grandpa’s farm in southern Idaho. His responsibilities included a variety of daily responsibilities. As a result of his farm experience during his formative years, Vince has an insatiable passion for food as a hunter, gatherer and forager, and he pays considerable attention to ‘where’ his food comes from. Vince considers food an integral part of personal “health care”, and remembers the adage: “you are what you eat”, and uses it as his philosophy. Vince is the sole proprietor of Adytum Cellars, where he produces premier meads (wine made with honey). The result of mead-making and studying its history have blossomed in to a full fledged fascination in to the art of fermentation, which has included but is not limited to: cabbage (sauerkraut), meat (prosciutto), and milk (yogurt & cheese). He is currently enjoying a fascinating journey in to the discovery of the role of yeast, fungus and bacteria and how they affect our everyday lives. He believes we live in a complex matrix of living organisms: we are but one of the many.
