About Vincent Mortlock

I have been involved in engineering and manufacture for over 37 years, and involved in composite manufacture for 32 of the 37. In my new role, I have a much wider involvement, from upfront sales and marketing, through all areas of manufacture, including quality assurance and purchasing, to final realisation of the product. Allowing me to be involved at the beginning of a project, with existing or new customers, right through to ongoing series production. I like my team to work closely with our customers to ensure that we understand their specific requirements. We start by accessing a product's suitability for manufacture, and choose the most appropriate manufacturing process. What we do at Broadwater is highly operator dependent. Therefore, it is all about people. Everyone at Broadwater is a member of a team. I feel it is my responsibility to make sure that all teams are working together. Having involvement and technical input at an early stage maintains continuity. It enables me to ensure that the customer’s requirements and specifications are understood correctly and are adhered to by my Prod. Eng. team. During the realisation phase at BWM, we ensure that the product is designed for manufacture, which is the only way to offer value for money. My engineering staff instinctively think “Value Engineering”. The BWM Prod. Eng. team put a lot of effort into the design of mould tooling, and assembly jigs and fixtures. We feel this is critical to ensure that the products we produce are of the highest quality, and that our customers are therefore satisfied. I am a firm believer that it’s the little things that make the difference, and as an engineer at heart, I enjoy doing the detail. At Broadwater, the management team work closely together to continuously improve the way we operate and communicate. We put a strong emphasis on R&D, and I find that developing new processes, particularly with new materials, as exciting as winning new business.
