About Vinod Mudliar

Hello, I work as a counselling psychologist at my venture, Inner Calling - an empathic and non judgmental space to tune in to yourSELF! After a first career in engineering and life-transforming battle with cancer, I underwent a complete transformation at a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. I moved from the field of engineering to pursue my inner calling – counseling psychology. I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, and then moved to California, USA to pursue Master of Arts in Counseling from Santa Clara University (SCU). I had an amazing opportunity to train with experts from different schools and theoretical orientations of counselling. With 6 years of culturally diverse training and experience from both the eastern (read India) and the western world (read the USA), I collaborate with my clients, whom I prefer to call my fellow travelers, to work on a spectrum of concerns related to mental health. I provide grief and trauma counselling, relationship and sexual counselling, psychosocial cancer care, and gender and sexuality counselling. The field of cancer-care is close to my heart. I work as a consultant counselor at St. Jude for Life (SJFL), a vertical of St. Jude India Child Care Center. I connect with survivors of childhood cancer, their parents and family to get a holistic understanding of the survivor’s journey post treatment and recovery. The induction process helps me understand survivors’ current status of their physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing; academics; career; relationship; challenges they are facing and aspirations for future. In addition to providing support, resources, and information about SJFL services and projects, I also provide counseling for various mental health concerns. As a mental health advocate, I conduct workshops and a series of talks for NGOs, schools, colleges, and corporate firms to address the stigma attached to mental health. I have completed Visharadh in Hindustani Classical vocals from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Integral Sound Studies and Practice program from Svaram, Auroville. I integrate music and mindfulness in my practice. My personal journey and experience with music has ignited the pursuit to carry out research to explore the therapeutic potential of Ragas and music on mental and emotional wellbeing.
