About Viola Bianca Serio

Doctor Europeus, PhD in Genetics, Oncology and Clinical Medicine. Graduated in medical and pharmaceutical biotechnology in Florence and qualified as biologist. Currently post-Doc at the University of Siena. I’m conducting a research project on the usefulness of cfDNA-liquid biopsy in treating advanced cancers. During the last years, I attended the Institute Cancer Research (ICR) of Sutton(UK) and the Cancer Institute at University College of London (UCL) where I deepened other techniques related to liquid biopsy such as cfDNA enzymatic methyl-Seq and analysis of CNVs trough cfDNA analysis. Previously, I was a fellowship holder at the University of Florence, in the medical genetics laboratory of Meyer Pediatric Hospital. In the internships, I investigated the molecular part (use of NGS and Sanger sequencing) and cellular part (formation of cellular spheroids with study of cell migration depending on the different cellular genetic profile) of the etiopathogenesis of Pheochromocytoma/Paraganglioma, rare neuroendocrine tumors.
