From advanced robotics in R&D labs to computer vision in warehouses, technology is making an impact on every step of the production process. Today, businesses are under more pressure than ever to deliver better products faster, at lower costs, and with less waste. Currently, manufacturers of all types rely on prototyping with CAD software. In future manufacturing processes, augmented and virtual reality could play a greater role in product design and could possibly eliminate the need for 3D printed physical models. We may be a few years away from VR-designed parts, but once a product design is finalized, the next step is planning how it will be made at production scale, working with parts suppliers and contract manufacturers to fulfill a large-scale build of the product. This is where I come in to help mechanical engineering teams design and develop products from concepts through the prototyping and testing phases, into 3D models, and to mass manufacturing. My skills also include: • Designing mechanical system parameters and building processes to improve systems performance and accuracy, as well as developing and optimizing specs for industrial automation equipment to incorporate Industry 4.0 technologies. • Supporting cross-functional engineering teams in mechanical systems integration projects, while interacting with contract manufacturers and vendors to solve manufacturability problems and implement design change notices. • Solving product development issues associated to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) through statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD & T). • Providing mechanical design support to product engineering and automation teams, through 2D & 3D Modeling and Simulation tools such as SolidWorks, Catia, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Creo, ProE, ANSYS and MATLAB.
