About Vita Mitchell

Vita Mitchell is currently an adjunct librarian at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College library on the Jackson County campus. She relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her family in September of 2016. Vita began her career as a librarian with the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System in January of 2008. She began her career as a Librarian I in the Children’s Services Department at the Carver Branch Library. As a children’s services librarian, Vita planned library programs and story times for children focusing on the age range of birth to age 11. She also maintained the collection by weeding and suggesting books that reflected the interests of the children in that community. Vita also planned and facilitated the summer reading program for children and visited local elementary schools to book talk, promote the summer reading program, and to encourage library usage and library card sign up in the community. In January of 2011, Vita was promoted to a Librarian II and began working in the Teen Services Department at the Bluebonnet Regional Library. As a teen services librarian, Vita planned library programs for middle and high school age tweens and teens. She also presented book talks at the local middle and high schools for Accelerated Reader, Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice, and the Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice selections. She also presented book talks at the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center to the incarcerated youth. Vita planned and facilitated the summer reading program for tweens and teens. She also did quite a bit of collection management by weeding and making suggestions for new purchases.
