About Vito Dalessio

During my career with the Essex County Sheriff's Office, I was assigned to plain clothes investigative assignments for over 23 years through the ranks of detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. As an investigator, supervisor, and commander, I have been assigned to the Fugitive Squad, Robbery Task Force, Criminal Investigations Division, Bureau of Narcotics, and Patrol Division. In addition, I have coordinated training, special events, special operations, evidence collection and storage. I am recognized as an expert witness in the field of narcotics and have submitted reports and testified in that capacity numerous times throughout my career. I have also participated in thousands of investigations and arrests, which have included surveillances, recovery of physical evidence, statements of witnesses, victims, and suspects, photo arrays, identification procedures, forensic analysis, and the preparation and review of various reports. From 2002 until my retirement, I was employed in a supervisory capacity which has included first line supervisor assignments, executive officer assignments, and most recently as the commanding officer of our Bureau of Narcotics, Criminal Investigation Division, and Patrol Division. During this time, I have utilized and participated in information sharing, intelligence gathering, mutual aid, and community policing. I also maintained excellent contacts and working relationships with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as, private sector entities.
