About Vitor Silva

I am an earthquake engineer with a focus on seismic hazard and risk analyses, development of methodologies to analyse the impact of earthquakes, and creation of open-source tools. I had the opportunity to participate and/or coordinate national, European and International projects with an aggregated budget of more than 5M EUR. I have conducted training and teaching in several countries including Italy, Germany, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Turkey, Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Portugal and Nepal. I was honoured with several awards, including the Carlos Sousa Oliveira award in 2016, the Shah Family Innovation Award in 2018, the Natural Hazards Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award in 2018, the Medal of Zagreb by the city of Zagreb in 2021 and the Earthquake Spectra Outstanding Paper award in 2021. I have published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings in the field of earthquake engineering and risk modelling. I am an Associate Editor for Earthquake Spectra and part of the Editorial Board of Seismica, Buildings and Frontiers in Built Environment.
