About Vittorio Marzano

My research interests cover various topics of transport engineering: urban, national and international freight and logistics modelling; advanced discrete choice modelling and econometrics, with applications to passenger and freight; agent-based modelling; o-d flows estimation/updating; traffic network sensors location; intelligent transport systems (ITS); city logistics. Internationally recognized research achievements are published in 17 journal papers (5 on Transportation Research Part B, the leading journal in transport engineering), 6 book chapters (4 in English) and more than 40 conference papers. I managed as Principal Investigator 2 international and 3 Italian national peer-reviewed research projects. A recent project proposal on future urban freight data collection has been ranked 1st for funding under a research grant scheme from University of Naples and Compagnia di San Paolo. I was senior project manager in more than 20 national and international research projects in the EU, US and Asia. I have a consolidated network of established research collaborations with universities and top researchers in EU, the US and Singapore. I have also a considerable experience in project management and in consultancy activities in the sectors of freight and logistics, public transport, high-speed railways, feasibility studies in Italy and abroad. Since 2015, I am scientific consultant of the Italian Ministry for Transport and Infrastructures, on themes related to freight and logistics planning and policy-making. I am involved in teaching activity for undergraduate and postgraduate courses and masters, in Italy and abroad. Since 2011, I have been teaching Freight and logistics at the University of Napoli, with top rank evaluations. I have supervised/co-supervised 4 PostDoc students, 3 PhD students and 65 master/degree students, in Italy and abroad (USA, Switzerland, Singapore).
