I follow with discipline an Investment Philosophy based on Principles of Value Investing adjusted to my competencies and style. With a background in Equities of over 28 years,(largely on side of managing/advising funds), tracked several sectors and numerous companies, done hundreds corporate management meetings and read/analysed hundreds of annual reports/balance sheets has aided in understanding how businesses/corporates have grown, evolved, and faltered through the business/economic and market cycles. The key to the Investment Style is to look for opportunities, generally neglected by the market participants,(being early in the cycle) before it catches market fancy/momentum. The waiting period is longer but worth it. The key ingredients of my Investment Philosophy/style are: • Focus on Absolute Returns • Sustainability of Growth, Efficiency of Capital Utilisation of Cash Flow • Reasonable Valuations with adequate Margin of Safety. Result of this has been a respectable track record, for the funds I have managed/advised. The learnings and experience from financial markets over cycles, stands in good stead in the Corporate Advisory function Take advantage of opportunities the markets presents us with in terms of mispricing of securities (Valuation Arbitrages), Merger/Demerger arbitrages etc. Ability to see long term economic trends (both at micro and macro level) to find investment opportunities as a result of changing trends, new trends gaining momentum. This is also done by observing correlations between different markets, like Correlations between markets Currency and Equity Markets etc. Been a regular commentator on Television with often contrarian and bold views having done programs on BloombergQuint, CNBC-TV18, ET-Now, BTVi, etc. I have also been a Visiting Faculty at B-Schools like Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, Sydenham Institute of Management, Symbiosys Institute of Business Management, Symbiosys Centre for Management & HRD, etc.
