About Vivian Tran

With a background in physiology and developmental biology, I have a great interest in cardiovascular health and delivering informed and accurate information to the community. My PhD focuses on developing a clinically relevant model of metabolic syndrome and exploring the role of perivascular adipose tissue and its effects on vascular function, in hopes to find therapeutic targets to improve cardiovascular disease co-morbidities. Alongside my PhD, I am currently the Communications and Engagement Officer for the Centre for Cardiovascular Biology and Disease Research, student representative for the Australian New Zealand Microcirculation society, CSIRO STEM Professional, Educational Partnerships Facilitator and Human Physiology and STEM outreach demonstrator at La Trobe University. My recent role as the La Trobe Research Impact Coordinator has also broadened my perspective on designing research projects that reach beyond academic contributions. Outside of the lab, I am passionate about education equality and STEM outreach among students from diverse backgrounds and science communication across cultures. The accessibility to science is absolutely crucial and I want to bridge that divide. I am team-orientated and inspired to be apart of the scientific community sharing the same goal: to improve the lives of others and am excited to contribute to the world of science and beyond.
