With 25 years at the helm of Gall Zeidler Consultants, I have dedicated my career to advancing the field of tunneling and infrastructure development on a global scale. As Principal, I lead our firm in delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions for some of the world’s most complex tunnel projects, overseeing project implementation from initial concept studies to readying the structure for its end use. Our work spans sectors including rail, highway, urban transit, water conveyance, and hydroelectric, where we employ the latest in tunneling technologies to ensure safety, efficiency, and long-term resilience. Key project highlights include: • Tunneling Innovation: Directed tunneling strategies for East Side Access Grand Central Madison in NYC, Silverline Phases I and II in Washington, DC, and California High-Speed Rail. Managed SEM and TBM solutions across transit projects such as the No. 7 Subway Access in NYC, Dulles International Airport APM System in Northern Virginia, and led rehabilitation and water infiltration mitigation strategies for aging infrastructure like Washington’s WMATA tunnels and Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Tuscarora and Blue Mountain Kittatinny Tunnels. • International Projects: Guided teams on tunneling methodologies across diverse geologic and environmental conditions—from the Hydropower Scheme at Alto Maipo in Santiago, Chile, the CrossRail project in the UK to Mine Access Tunnels in Finland and South Africa—tailoring engineering solutions to meet unique project demands. • Strategic Oversight & Technical Excellence: Leveraged advanced 2D/3D numerical modeling to predict construction impacts, led the development of comprehensive rock and soft ground support systems, and provided independent verification on major ventures, such as the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion in Virginia and Istanbul Bosporus Strait Road Crossing in Turkey.
