About Wade Roush

I’m a journalist who creates accessible stories about the human side of innovation and how we can use science and technology to make the future better (or worse). I work at the intersection of the written and spoken word. I reach audiences through books, magazines, the web, radio, podcasts, live storytelling, and consulting reports—all with the goal of helping non-specialists understand, appreciate, and intelligently navigate their changing world. I'm the producer and host of Soonish, a journalistic podcast about technology, culture, curiosity, and the future, and the co-founder of Hub & Spoke, a collective of energetic, idea-driven, independent podcasts. I'm also the author of Extraterrestrials, a look at the history of the idea of life on other worlds, published by the MIT Press in May of 2020, and editor of Twelve Tomorrows, a science fiction anthology published by MIT Technology Review and the MIT Press in 2018. In 2020 I developed and was the founding host of the podcast Deep Tech for MIT Technology Review. My column "Ventures: The Business of Innovation" appeared monthly in Scientific American in 2019-20. I do extensive work as a freelance audio producer of science, technology, and health-related podcasts, and I've also developed a practice as an "organizational storyteller" for technology organizations, embedding myself inside startups and venture funds in order to prepare journalistic accounts of their innovation and growth for key audiences.
