About Wakea Brown

I am a servant leader with 28 years of experience in education. As the Director of Teacher Development for Clayton County Public Schools, I lead initiatives to support teacher growth, coordinating training for new and novice educators, waiver and provisional teachers, instructional paraprofessionals, and substitutes. I oversee the Teacher Academy of Preparation and Pedagogy (TAPP) program, while collaborating with district departments to provide high level professional development opportunities. My impact in education is rooted in my classroom beginnings in Savannah-Chatham County Schools, where I earned the title of Teacher of the Year In Clayton County Public Schools, I continued teaching, earning another Teacher of the Year award (2006-2007). Transitioning to leadership, I served as Teacher Development Specialist, District-Level Instructional Facilitator, Assistant Principal, and Coordinator for Performance Management before my most cherished role as an elementary school Principal, where I was able to cultivated a “Culture of Caring” and empowered students to excel. I have been blessed to earn the 2007 Clayton County Teacher of the Year Award, the 2007 NAACP Trailblazer Award, and be a finalist for 2022 Clayton County Principal of the Year. I have also shared my expertise as an educational consultant and national speaker, working with districts and organizations globally nationwide.
