About Walter Byers

Mr. Walter Byers is a senior aerospace engineer specializing in the field of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics with over 42 years of experience. Mr. Byers was the Lockheed-Palmdale (Skunk Works) Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and avionics/payload cooling. He also performed engine bay cooling and ventilation as well as structural heat transfer analysis on air vehicles. He has an extensive background in manufacturing and assembly of air vehicles at the shop floor level. Currently Mr. Byers, a member of the Sierra Technical Services (STS) team, is part of a U.S. Government team of experts providing oversight for the 5th Generation Advanced Target (5GAT) program. His duties are to ensure that all aspects of the vehicle temperatures, Environmental Control System and in particular, the engine bay ventilation/cooling system are compliant with the requirements. Mr. Byers has also been providing consulting and analysis to TheSpaceShipCompany, particularly to their advanced design group in the fields of thermodynamics and fluid-mechanics. Additionally, consulting and analysis activities have been performed for the Toyota Motor and Manufacturing group for a unique propulsion system cooling system for an air vehicle.
