About Walter Meyer
Walter is a professor of Art History at Santa Monica College and is the current Art Department Chair. He specializes in all things digital in relation to visual literacy. His pioneering digital pedagogy has earned him back-to-back “Chairs of Excellence” from the college. He is the Finance Director and past President of the Art Historians of Southern California, the former vice chair of the Arts Commission and the former chair of the Public Art Committee for the city of Santa Monica. He has served on the Board for the Santa Monica Arts Foundation and is a former board member of the Craft and Folk Art Museum of Los Angeles. After completing his graduate work at USC in he worked in publishing at Harcourt and then the Thomson Corporation. He has also worked at the Getty Center and done consulting work along with being an independent art advisor and exhibition curator. Walter is the husband of artist Rachel Lachowicz and the father of 3 incredible young women, Emmerson, Tatum & Finley. Sometimes he holds office hours at the beach with his longtime friends Jeremy Kidd and “Big Wave Dave” Boren of VB Surf fame.
