About Ward Alexander

Ward Alexander is a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng), registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), as well as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM), and Project Management Professional (PMP®), and was recently practising as a Project Manager, Transporation Engineer/Planner and Railway Engineer. He has over 25 years’ experience in Transport related projects, having worked in the Built Environment for most of his career, and for extended periods at Spoornet (now Transnet Freight Rail), Metrorail, SARCC (now PRASA) and Transnet Capital Projects, mainly in the rail and infrastructure environment. His most recent permanent position was in the Transportation Business Line at AECOM SA (until October 2016). He has previously worked closely with most Transnet Operating Divisions (eg. Freight Rail, Rail Engineering, Propnet, etc). During his tenure at Transnet Capital Projects, he was involved mainly in an EPCM environment by utilizing the NEC3 suite of contracts (namely Engineering and Construction contract and Professional Services contract), and Primavera P6 Professional project management system for project controls and reporting, as well as the employment of Transnet’s Project Lifecycle Process (PLP) methodology. He is a Member of SAICE, have extensive experience in managing mainly medium sized projects and have previously worked in railway construction, railway engineering and planning, and railway maintenance, as well as building construction. Other areas of experience include regional planning and strategic network development in the rail and transportation planning arena, having been involved with feasibility studies, conceptual planning and preliminary design of new transportation infrastructure, including new railway lines, light rail systems, stations and expansion of existing commuter rail and light rail transit services. One of his recent previous roles within AECOM (Legacy BKS) was that of Programme Delay Analyst on the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link Project, working as part of the Gauteng Province’s Programme Delay Analysis Team, in close consultation with the Legal Team and the international experts in Delay Analysis, Price Waterhouse Coopers (UK). He has recently worked on an international assignment with AECOM in the UK, spending 6 months as a Senior Project Manager/Associate Director in Manchester. The role involved the completion of feasibility studies, incorporating conceptual and preliminary designs of two extensions of the Metrolink Light Rail Transit system in Greater Manchester.
