Background
About Wayne Ahmad
I am a motivated data engineer with a piqued interest in all things data/cloud. My journey started shortly after the pandemic when I made the brave move to transition from a photography background, into pursuing a career in tech. Being a naturally curious person, I wanted to learn as much about the industry as I could. Therefore, I did a lot of research in a variety of areas in relation to tech and gravitated towards data engineering. I started researching all the necessary skills that would help me such as Python, AWS, Terraform, Git and began finding resources that would teach me those skills. I gave myself a strict routine to self study daily to ensure my success. For additional coverage, I purchased a structured python course from Udemy and further learned AWS on my own. As a result of this, I obtained 2 AWS certifications which was a big achievement for me and a testament to my personal perseverance. This soon led me to securing a position on a 12-week data engineering bootcamp by Generation UK and Ireland in partnership with Infinity Works. My time on this course has given me valuable exposure to technologies such as Docker, Linux, AWS and programming languages such as Python and SQL. I had the opportunity to apply this into practice on projects throughout the course led by industry professionals from Infinity Works. This involved building a pop-up cafe CLI application built In python to track customer orders and deliveries, iterate through various data storage such as text files, CSV and then finally moving to a MySQL database. The second half of the programme focused on working collaboratively with other members of the cohort. This involved building an ETL pipeline from scratch, transforming the data and finally loading it into a centralised database. As the tech lead I was responsible for leading the project to completion, allocating and dividing up tasks while using the agile methodologies as a way of managing our project. This has further reinforced my understanding of the responsibilities of a data engineer. I am excited by the constant learning this industry provides and strive to be a part of a company where I can apply creative solutions to solving problems whilst also applying the skills I have learnt on the bootcamp. I really enjoy this line of work as I am profoundly passionate about the tech industry, nature of tasks presented and eager-to learn from experienced engineers.
