About Wayne Bannister

I am a 31 year old half English, half Filipino working as an Environmental Scientist for the environmental consultancy company Hydrobiology. I completed my PhD in the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore. My PhD thesis is "Late Holocene-Anthropocene Environmental Changes in Tropical East Asia: An Investigation of Potential Regime Shifts in San Pablo, Laguna Province, Philippines." and I also worked part-time on diatom DNA metabarcoding research in Tropical East Asia. I am a palaeolimnologist that specialises in sedimentary work for diatoms, pollen, charcoal and heavy metal geochemistry and collection of water quality monitoring data. I also have several years of experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). I spent 17 years living in Essex, before leaving and relocating to Exeter, Devon in September 2008, where I lived independently and studied at Exeter College on the International Baccalaureate course. After receiving my diploma in July 2010, I took a gap year before resuming my studies in October 2011 at Loughborough University. I achieved an Upper Second-Class Honours in Geography BSc and an Upper Second-Class Honours in Enivoronmental Monitoring for Management MSc while at Loughborough University. From January 2016 to present, I have worked within the Tropical Environmental Change group in the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore. I have worked on numerous research projects, including PhD palaeolimnology work on potential regime shifts in crater lakes found in the Philippines, diatom-based DNA metabarcoding work on reservoirs in Singapore, and aquatic ecosystem changes in two volcanic crater lakes in the Afroalpine zone, Albertine (Western) Rift, central Africa. I obtained my full U.K. driving licence on November 16th 2010 and my Singaporean driving licence in 2022. I am also a practitioner and instructor of two martial arts: I hold the rank of 2nd Dan black belt in Bujinkan Ninjutsu and the high rank of Antas Batikan (Certified Expert) in Guererro Arnis de Mano. I speak English fluently and I am also able to speak German and basic Tagalog (main dialect of the Philippines).
