About Wayne Davis

As a homeless teen visiting the Steinhart Marine Aquarium in San Francisco I found the friends I wanted and needed. With the critical help of Mrs. Alice Rydeen I finished high school (she ignored that I forged parental signatures to stay in school) and I started community college. And, for some unknown reason, there was no looking back: I completed the AA, B.Sci, M.Sci. Ph.D. & Post-Doc in marine ecology specializing in the impact of marine life on degrading pollutants. My career was a blend of senior scientist in government and adjunct professor of oceanography. I published 36 scholarly articles about how a robust ecology destroys or chelates marine pollutants. An example of how much I loved to acknowledge the role of marine life (i.e. my friends from the Steinhart!) is expressed in that record (e.g, Davis, W. The Role of Bioturbation in Sediment Resuspension & its interaction with Physical Shearing. Experimental Marine Biololgy & Ecology 171; 1993: 187-200). I retired in Maine with my wife & best friend, Christine Merchant; we recently became grandparents and another is on the way. I presently manage our guest house (thelakesideloft.com), lead courses for Landmark Education (the Discourse Program) and continue refereeing soccer (at 70+ years old!). Chris & I travel to India and elsewhere to be with our children, participate in Seeds-of-Peace, host a student from Yeman, welcome our grandchildren into the world and continue looking forward to new adventures.
