Background
About Wayne Graystone
My current role is as a SENCo and member of the Centre Management Team where I am based at a social, emotional, mental health provision. The pupils have a diverse range of needs from autism, ADHD, Tourettes Syndrome, dyslexia, dyscalculia, oppositional disorder all with a diagnosis of a mental health needs. I have been in my current role where I have worked extensively with a wide range of SEND needs. I was initially based in a hospital teaching role where I taught across KS1 and KS2. I was one of the specialist team working with pupils with profound needs so would teach PMLD pupils and develop curriculum befitting them. I worked with a multitude of needs from visual impairment, profound physical needs where teaching was sensory based to supporting pupils who were mainstream ability but who needed and trauma informed approach to education. My passion for supporting pupils with SEND meant I transferred to a KS3 provision so I could undertake the SENCo qualification. In this post I have become a licensed THRIVE Practitioner and have supported with the implication of embedding an emotion coaching approach in supporting pupils. I have co-ordinated the Centre attaining Gold rating in the National Autism Society standards and am co-ordinating the TIASS Certification process at present. I have undertaken autism training, emotion coaching training, Supporting Looked After Pupils Training, THRIVE Practitioner training and Tourette’s training in the last year. I have also delivered weekly SEN focussed briefings where I have delivered training around the EHCP process, THRIVE, emotion coaching and the Plan-Do-Review cycle and how this links with EHCPs. I constantly work with parents and young people in the development of strategies to support then and the process of reviewing their effectiveness. I have been responsible for conducting all annual reviews and overseeing all EHCP applications and mediation processes. In this role I have worked with an extensive range of professionals from educational psychologists, home school SENCOs, speech and language co-ordinators, CAMHS and Family Support Workers. I have extensive experience in working collaboratively with others to ensure the best possible outcomes for young people. I have also in the last year undertaken and achieved my Level 7 Psychometric Assessment qualification and have also completed my Access Arrangements qualification. I am keen to utilise these skills and to have the opportunity to access further training especially in the areas of dyscalculia and dyslexia.
