About Wayne Twine
I manage a research programme for the School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Sciences, Wits University, at the Wits Rural Facility. I also run a 3rd year community Based Natural Resource Management field trip and teach a postgraduate course in Ethnoecology. My research, and that of my postgraduate students, focusses on understanding human-environment relationships in common-property resource systems, using a socio-ecological lense. This includes investigation of sustainable rural livelihoods, resource ecology, and local resource governance in the former homelands of South Africa. I have published 22 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals, and have been the author or co-author of four book chapters. I am a research associate of the Population Centre in the Institute for Behavioural Sciences, University of Colorado, and I serve on the scientific steering committee for the South African Environmental Observation Network Ndlovu node.
