About Wayne Urffer

I am an experienced teacher of sociology, ethics and comparative religions. I have a particular interest in examining how people are motivated to make moral judgments in more-or-less ordinary circumstances-for instance, what sort of thinking enters into the decision whether or not to wash one's hands after using the rest room? I also seek to understand how individuals' moral choices may be influenced by their religious beliefs and/or their personal prejudices. I embarked on an academic path poorly prepared after having graduated from a vocational-technical high school program. Beginning with a two-year turn at a junior college, I worked hard to improve myself as a student and genuinely to "think better." Consequently, I take great joy in working with similar non-traditional students, those whom others may overlook as beyond help or bound to fail. I don't think any student is bound to fail, and I think the vast majority, regardless of academic preparation, can think more clearly, study more effectively and learn.
