Watchay! Bonjour! Hello — I’m Weena Saunders. I’m a proud northern nurse with nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare, mostly in Indigenous communities along the James and Hudson Bay coasts. My journey has taken me from the bedside to leadership and into the classroom. I’ve had the privilege of managing healthcare teams, supporting staff, and improving how care is delivered in remote settings. I also played a key role in introducing and leading Meditech system training and support. In addition, my role as an educator at Northern College has allowed me to support the growth of future paramedics, nurses, and PSWs, helping them build strong foundations for their careers in healthcare. One of my proudest moments was in 2012, when a fire shut down clinic in Moosonee. Our team quickly set up emergency care in the curling rink to ensure the community still had access to vital services.
