About Wei-Ting Lu

As a Kwok Research Fellow at the Francis Crick Institute, I am dedicated to unraveling the molecular mechanisms of cancer evolution and chromosomal instability, which are key drivers of tumour heterogeneity and therapy resistance. With over 13 years of experience in molecular biology, I have a strong background in cancer evolution and oncology, DNA damage response, protein translation, and microRNA pathway, which are essential for maintaining genomic integrity and cellular homeostasis. In my current role, I am investigating the role of FAT1, a frequently mutated gene in lung cancer, in promoting chromosomal instability and tumour progression. I have also contributed to the understanding of how TRACERx drivers mutations, which are lung cancer-specific mutations, impair DNA damage repair and cause genomic instability. Additionally, I have participated in the Crick COVID-19 Consortium, where I helped set up a diagnostic testing pipeline within 13 days and trained volunteers. I have published my work in high-impact journals, such as Science and Nature Communications, and received prestigious awards, such as the MRC Centenary Award and the Sir David Cooksey Prize in Translation.
