PhD research: Develop high speed radio receiver which includes 5GHz sampler and the Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA. The receive system involves front end RF electronics selections, FPGA design, and post data processing with GPU for real time low latency requirements. The goal is to apply the advanced and updated electronic and computation technology for the radar and wireless communication systems. Performed FPGA designs/simulations and DSP with various computer tools (Simulink, altera, Xilinx SDKs). Experiment tests are designed and performed for system validation and troubleshooting. Analyzed wide-band statistic signal with DSP techniques, such as filtering design, demodulation of the digital wireless communication signals (FM, DTV, GPS, etc.), adaptive filter algorithms. The algorithm designs are developed in matlab, and speed up on GPU platform where the computation complexity and power consumption are considered. The challenges for this project includes, but don't restrict to, antenna pattern (EM) modeling and array calibration, ADC synchronizations, floorplaning for FPGA design at high clock rate, high data rate transmission through fast 10Gb Ethernet links, Big data issues for real time wide-band data processing in GPU, algorithm development and implementations. The project therefore requires: 1.) The skill of softeware programming, such as EM simulation tools, Verilog, Python, CUDA C, C/C++, Matlab, and Linux Operation system, etc; 2.) The skill of hardware and test instrument operations, including the use of signal generator, amplifier, analog filters, choice of antennas, and Agilent NA (Network Analyzer), SA (Spectrum Analyzer), ACT (Antenna and Cable Test). 3.) The knowledge of Digital Logic, Radar System Engineering, wireless communication, digital signal processing, statistics signal processing, filter design, probability and random processing, Machine Learning, array processing, interferometry, etc.
