About Weixun Lu

Highly motivated and independently hard-working researcher with excellent data analysis skills and solid programming background. I am holding a Ph.D. degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Victoria. I have developed in-depth knowledge in selecting, analyzing and interpreting statistical data through statistical computer software, including R, SAS, Python, BayesFusion, SPSS, and Latex. I am a faster learner and learned all the statistical software above by myself. I have an excellent overall knowledge of computer hardware and Microsoft Office software, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Since my undergraduate major is combining Economics and statistics, I have excellent expertise in economic as well. My Ph.D. research interests are: multi-risk modelling/forecasting for improved agriculture decision-support, predicting crop yield variability and gaps due to climate change (ENSO), disease, and extreme events, which applies machine-learning technologies and statistical models on multidisciplinary real-world data for time series agriculture risks forecasting. My research models provide high accuracy forecasting of climate risk information to improve agricultural strategies in farming management. Some findings of my research have been presented in apply science conferences (Joint the Statistics Meeting (JSM) 2018 in Vancouver and The International Environmental Society (TIES) 2019 at Yunnan University in China).
