About Wendy Jane Nicholson

Currently, an Associate NED and Executive coach, former Deputy Chief Public Health Nurse and Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Nursing in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (Department of Health and Social Care in England). With a wealth of experience as a senior nurse leader, educator, coach and Civil Servant, working across organisational boundaries within central government, regionally and locally. With a proven track-record of developing and leading innovative leading large-scale programmes, implementing policy and delivering against governmental priorities including: Best Start in Life and Modernisation of the Healthy Child Programme. Adept at working across complex systems to deliver outcomes and address inequalities including leading the Implementation of the Teenage Pregnancy across the Northwest of England; implementing one of the first Sure Start Centres in England; implementing the Leaving Care Act and the whistle-blowing review for children in care in Wales.As Deputy Chief Nurse, Wendy led the portfolio for children, young people and families, with responsibility for supporting the workforce and local systems to deliver high quality and safe care whilst achieving outcomes. As a clinical expert in child health and nurse educator she provided advice across government and internationally. Wendy, as Deputy Head of the WHO CC provides technical, clinical and professional advice globally, working with a number of Ministries of Health and WHOA passionate national nurse leader with a commitment to making a difference to children, young people and families, she is committed to engaging with children and families and this is demonstrated through her work and achievements. Her commitment to nursing and children was recognised in 2019 New Years Honours, when she received the MBEMedia trained, with extensive experience in working with the media, she regularly blogs and has over followers on social media. Experienced in writing for publication including journal articles, chapters for books and beyond. Described as an inspiring presenter and narrator, she regularly presents at conferences - locally regionally and internationally. She has retained her passion for nurse education and holds an honorary lectureship specialising in leadership and political awareness.As an ILM level 7 Executive coach, she supports a number of mentees each year including FNF and QNI aspiring leaders. In her spare time Wendy volunteers supporting children in care and as a committee member for BBC Children in Need (large grants)
