About Wes Norman

As the Fire Chief of the Garden Valley Fire Protection District, I have had the privilege of working my way through the ranks and into this leadership role. Since joining the department in 2004, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of our operations which has sharpened my approach to leadership. My journey has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by every team member, and I strive to foster a culture that values continuous training, innovative problem solving, and strong community relationships. Serving as the Chair of the El Dorado County Joint Powers Authority (JPA) allows me to collaborate with other fire protection agencies in our region. My membership in CALCHIEFS, the California Fire Chiefs Association, reflects my dedication to professional development and staying current with industry best practices. Additionally, I am actively involved with the county California Incident Command Certification System (CICCS) committee, which underscores my expertise in emergency management and incident command structures. Beyond my professional responsibilities, I enjoy giving back to my community through volunteer work with Rotary International and coaching youth football, reinforcing my commitment to both public service and community engagement.
