Background
About Whit Genoway
I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. I moved alone at the age of 17 to Montreal, Quebec, to pursue an athletic career in water polo. I was fortunate to represent Canada for nearly a decade as an athlete. I played with the Canadian National Water Polo team in over 100 international games. Having been an athlete for most of my life, I’ve always been competitive, driven, and I love challenges. My experience as an elite athlete has shaped many of the values that I pride myself on in my professional life: respect, integrity, teamwork, resilience, and passion. Since retiring from sport, I graduated from McGill University with a degree in Materials Engineering in 2015. In 2014, I joined a Technorm, a forensic engineering firm, working primarily on mechanical failures and corrosion and chemical interactions. With my arrival at Technorm, I initiated our services in metallurgical and materials engineering. In the past 6 years, as a member of the post‑disaster investigation team, I determine the origins and causes of disasters, equipment failures, fires, and explosions. I also perform metallurgical analyses and examinations of all types of materials in the laboratory, manage several projects at a time, draft opinion papers and evaluation reports, and act as a technical expert for litigation claims. My affinity for social innovation and being a former elite athlete led me to create Athlete-Pro Lynx (APL) in 2017. APL is a community platform to help bridge the gap for elite athletes transitioning from high-level sport into a professional career. With the intent to educate about how valuable the athlete mindset can be to an organization, Athlete-Pro Lynx is dedicated to providing opportunities for athletes to leverage their mindset and to step foot into a professional space. More recently, I graduated with a Master of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. I am passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation and believe that they are key priorities that every business should harness to remain competitive and be adaptable to the many challenges our society faces. Growing up in Saskatchewan as a member of the Métis community, I’ve always been sensitive to Indigenous issues within Canada. I am passionate about climate change, building strong relationships, as well being a positive leader in my community.
