About Whitaker McKenzie

Over the Summer of 2018, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to canvass approximately twenty hours a week for the Indiana State Republican Party as a field intern. I really learned how to talk to people, answer questions, and get people educated on the upcoming midterm election. I was also lucky to have had the opportunity to intern for the Mike Braun for Senate campaign during the beginning of my senior year. Here I had the chance to learn how the behind the scenes logistics of a campaign functioned in coordination with the grassroots aspect of an election. I was also able to pair my connection to high school clubs in central Indiana with events to make sure attendance was strong for candidate Braun. By the end of my senior year, I started interning with the Indiana State Republican Party as a full time office political intern at the headquarters in Indianapolis. Here, I honed my grassroots abilities, had an amazing introduction to data entry, and began staffing events. After the summer had concluded, I had the absolute privilege to begin work on State Treasurer Mitchell’s congressional race for Indiana’s 5th district. For the first four months, I gained the knowledge and experience of surrogating events, further staffing events, and candidate services through the position of campaign aide. Starting January 1st 2020, my role has been expanded to field organizer within Boone and Marion counties. I hope to further expand and put to use my grassroots/organizational ability.
