About Whitney Springer

I am a librarian. I have a passion for children’s literature, travel, and information access. I love to learn, and to pass on new skills. From growing up, I know that one of the best ways to do this is to be a librarian, where all of the world’s information is in your grasp. I promote a love of reading as well as learning in the people who come to me. I have a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited university, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. I will graduate from the MLIS program in April. Many of my classes focused on Children’s and Young Adult services and resources, collections management, and reading practices. I also have focused extensively on library design, specifically library space and space optimization. I volunteer with Librarians Without Borders, an organization dedicated to helping remove the information disparity around the globe. I have visited Guatemala with the group where we helped build a library from the ground-up, including design ideas and collections. More locally, I volunteered at my high school library, covering the lunch hour shift so students could remain and do their work. It was a great introduction to working in a school library, helping the students with their work and finding information they need.
