Background
About Will Barker
Experienced Mental Health Nurse with seven and half years post registration experience, non-medical prescriber with a scope of practice for neurodevelopmental conditions. My post registration experience was two years within a local inpatient unit based on a working age adult acute admissions unit supporting those with severe and enduring health problems. For the last two years I have worked within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service within a small Intellectual Disabilities team alongside the Neurodevelopmental team. I am qualified as an A1 Assessor within Health and Social Care. I have worked across the health and social care sectors for 20 years ranging from EMI and nursing homes through to spinal injuries units and A&E departments as a support worker. Within mental health services I have experience of working on acute admission wards, PICU and within acute admissions for Forensic Mental Health since 2004 as a support worker. Prior to this I had worked in a variety of general health care services from urological surgery wards and A&E through to a GP surgery and minor injuries units. Since qualifying as an RMN I have additionally returned to Bucks New University to facilitate lectures in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities. I have a particular interest in working with Looked After Children with mental health problems and completed an extended literature review on the subject as part of my BSc. In the time, I spent at Bucks New University during my nurse training I organized the universities first ever World Mental Health Day event aiming to reduce the stigma and increase knowledge and experience of Mental Health Service Users to other disciplines within nursing.
