About Will Bateman

I study central banks, sovereign debt, monetary policy and fiscal institutions, with a special focus on vulnerabilities and risks of market infrastructure during periods of crisis. My research on central banks and money has been reported by Bloomberg, The Financial Times (Alphaville), Australian Broadcasting Corporation News and the Sydney Morning Herald. I have presented my research on US and comparative monetary policy at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Bank of England, Bank of Japan, Harvard University, Cornell University, Georgetown Law and on Macro Musings. I have given expert evidence to the UK Parliament on the Bank of England’s quantitative easing program (including shaping reform proposals) and participated in expert roundtables on digital currency at the Reserve Bank of Australia. My work has been funded by the Economics and Social Research Council (UK), the German Research Foundation and the Canadian Social Science and Humanities Research Council. I enjoy multi-disciplinary work and collaborate with economists, political scientists, engineers and computer scientists. I also research law and artificial intelligence, and the political economy of constitutions.
