Background

About Will Johnson

Clinical Research Scientist at Medical College of Wisconsin (Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery) & Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (Herma Heart Center). My research interests at MCW & CHW are focused towards improving prognoses and patient quality of life through clinical and translational research studies regarding congenital heart disease causation (genetic/environmental), surgical outcomes, and long-term survival. Passionate about conducting highly impactful research that influences the medical practice of cardiology by delivering translational results which yield infallible evidence for improving patient life. Associated interests include researching the environmental links associated with the causation of congenital heart defects and cancer. Core training and background is in the field of Cancer Biology, and also Environmental Microbiology, with experience in translational cancer research (phytotherapeutics) and clinical research coordination, including research design and development. Extensive background in protocol development, patient relations (study enrollment/retention), data collection/dissemination, manuscript preparation & publication, evaluation, a myriad of scientific laboratory techniques, and project quality assurance. Graduate research focused on understanding the risks that influenced the incidence of disease (cancer), including investigating the extent of the roles that geographic and living environments factored. Projects aimed to assess and evaluate the role of biological pathways in prostate cancer incidence and the treatment of tumors with plant-based therapeutics. Central focus was phytoceutical treatment of cancer in the prostate, utilizing bioactive extracts of the Nigerian shrub Vernonia amygdalina (phytotherapeutic compounds) for use in combating the disease without adversely affecting the patient. A mentor to youth; encouraging them to become GOD-fearing and loving productive citizens in society.
