About Will Kopp

When I talk with students in communications, I stress two fundamental rules: Always tell the truth and work only for organizations and missions that you support with your whole heart. For me, that is higher education. No field, no force does more to promote truth, preserve democracy, and secure peace and the planet. I have spent my career building a reputation with reporters, colleagues and presidents for hard work, timely responses, accuracy and forthright honesty. I’ve created ad campaigns and publications that have won national awards, college websites, brand overhauls, a college mascot, a $6 million scholarship program, a reality video show, a popular 3-minute lecture program, and social media campaigns. These have all sprung from the mission of the institutions, and they’ve been successful. Today, the storytelling tools in our profession are more varied, intrusive and complex than at any time in my career, and this toolbox continues to expand. That makes this career stimulating and fun—sometimes like a chess match and sometimes like a game of Calvin ball.
