About Will Norman

For my professional work in Communications, I try and ensure that all my content speaks with a sincere, open and authentic voice, and a real sense of personality. My approach is always to try and target the part of the story that will help an audience engage and make that all important emotional connection. It’s not about what I want to say, it’s about what people want to hear. In my work for the University of Worcester I have produced a diverse array of content for digital, social, and more traditional print platforms, as well as contributing to content strategies for these areas. As a freelance writer and a blogger, I have used my own experiences as a disabled person and a paralympian to promote the concepts of inclusion and social justice, founded upon the principle that true inclusion stems from our everyday interaction as individuals, not from policy documents and institutional frameworks. Much of my thinking on the question of diversity began to take shape during my own academic studies, and especially through my philosophical work on the Poststructuralist school of thought, especially the ideas of Jacques Derrida. Indeed, along with sport and writing, a love of ideas and the countless ways to make and remake the world through philosophical enquiry has been one of the major passions in my life. As a blind footballer, I have been fortunate enough to represent Great Britain at two Paralympic Games - in Beijing in 2008, and unforgettably in London in 2012. I have represented my country over 50 times, winning world and European silver along the way. Although sport has provided me with many invaluable experiences, it has also afforded me the opportunity to speak and write extensively about questions of inclusion and diversity, and for that, I am extremely grateful.
