Background
About Will Peak
Woodwind repair specialist Will Peak strives to aid musicians of all skill levels with exceptional woodwind repair, maintenance, and customization. Will is trusted with instruments belonging to various professional woodwind players, including saxophonists, clarinetists, oboists, flutists, and bassoonists from the Kansas City and St. Louis Symphonies, UMKC Conservatory and other universities, and the Kansas City jazz scene. Will is also honored to be the first recommendation professionals make to their private students and is passionate about providing the highest quality repair to professionals and beginners alike. Will’s approach to woodwind repair is guided and informed by his background as a musician. Will first discovered his interest in musical instrument repair as a high school saxophonist when he spent time with Judi Dietz of Judi’s Woodwind Shop in Leavenworth, KS. He was fortunate to spend many hours during the last two years of high school learning from Judi while continuing to grow as a saxophonist. Will continued to actively pursue repair throughout his BM in saxophone performance at the UMKC Conservatory of Music where he studied with saxophonist Zach Shemon. During his time at UMKC, Will also studied clarinet with Dr. Jane Carl, performed in the jazz bands under the direction of Dan Thomas and Bobby Watson, and played in the conservatory wind bands of Joe Parisi and Steve Davis on both clarinet and saxophone. Will continued to grow his small repair shop in his home where he serviced the instruments of UMKC students and faculty, and his reputation quickly spread by word of mouth. By the time he completed his degree, Will had a loyal base of clients and a fully tooled woodwind repair shop. In 2019, Will officially started Peak Performance Woodwinds, his current home-based workshop where he continues to service and repair woodwinds while developing original products and designs, which are being used by musicians around the world. Will also maintains a presence in the Kansas City area as a performer and private teacher while he continues to provide exceptional, personalized service to musicians who visit Peak Performance Woodwinds. Will remains devoted to experimenting, learning, and innovating to bring about new advancements to woodwind musicians.
