About William Ball

Billy was responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Southern Company's electric transmission system and actively involved in electric utility industry policy matters. He served on the Department of Energy Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC); Eastern Interconnect Data Sharing Network, Inc.(EIDSN), where he was Board Chairman; Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions (CERTS) Industry Leadership Council; North American Transmission Forum, where he was Board Chairman; Southeastern Electric Reliability Council, where he was Board Vice-Chairman; and the North American Electric Reliability Council Members Representative Committee, where he was Chairman. He also previously served as a member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Smart Grid Federal Advisory Committee (SGFAC); the Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative (EIPC) Executive Committee. Billy participated in a number of state and federal regulatory proceedings throughout his career. During his career at Southern Company Billy served as an Executive Sponsor for United Way and was President of the Southern Company Employees PAC. Billy is a native of Columbia, Mississippi. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Mississippi State University (MSU) with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and holds an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Mississippi State University James Worth Bagley College of Engineering, and serves on the MSU Dean’s Advisory Council. Billy is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi.
