About William Bouvel

William has served as a full time Associate at St. Chrysostom's church since March of 2022, a familiar face to the parish after serving for five years as director of Children's Ministries. In this new role, in addition to preaching and celebrating, he oversees Children's Ministries, Young Professionals, Justice and Dismantling Racism, and other formation and outreach programs. William is active in the Diocese and throughout the broader church in a ministry that began with families at St. Chrysostom's, Tell Me the Truth About Racism. This wondering based set of stories offers to children as young as 4 and adults of any age a new way to encounter the work of dismantling racism by simply telling the truth about the past, through the theological lens of Christian faith. It has been a great privilege to be invited into this important conversation around the US and Canada, in churches, schools, and communities seeking to make progress in recognizing themselves as the children of God that we all are. Away from church, William is a classical tenor, trained at the Royal Academy of Music. He has performed across the United States and Europe with Opera Lafayette of Washington DC, Brighton Early Music Festival, Haymarket Opera Chicago, and Madison Early Music Festival. He sings regularly with the Chicago Symphony Chorus. His leadership with Song ReCycle explored curating new contexts for existing repertoire, most notably his St Mark Passion which recontextualized movements of Handle Oratorios into a telling of Jesus’s Passion. William’s early career as a computer programmer and supervisor at McMaster-Carr gave him a foundation in business systems, web design, and management. He currently lives in Chicago with his husband and daughter.
