About William Choy

William Choy was first elected to Town Council in 2007. He served a term and a half as a member of Council until being elected to the Office of Mayor in a by-election in 2012. He was acclaimed in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017 and 2021. During his time as Mayor, many new initiatives have been launched, making the community stronger and local government more transparent. Mayor Choy is proud of the reputation that Stony Plain has earned among other municipalities in Alberta for its ability to work exceptionally well together as a proactive team. Mayor Choy is an entrepreneur and the third-generation owner/operator of Bing's #1 Restaurant, a community gathering place that has been located in Stony Plain's historic downtown since 1970. Mayor Choy graduated from Memorial Composite High School in 1992. He earned a B.A. in 1995 and a B.Ed. in 1997 from Kings University. Mayor Choy is actively involved in the community and sits as a board member on several organizations, charities and service groups. For his commitment to the community, he has twice received the Chamber of Commerce Decker Kulak Memorial Award for community service. In 2012, he was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to the community. William has been married to his wife, Dara, since 1996. The Choys are proud to be raising their three children in a culturally rich environment like Stony Plain. He and his wife were raised in Stony Plain and graduated from Memorial Composite High School in 1992.
